Ordination 2008

Eight Men Were Ordained to the Permanent Diaconate -  May 17, 2008

ABOUT THE PERMANENT DIACONATE

The restoration of the Office of Permanent Deacon following Vatican II in the mid-1960's recalls the ancient tradition described in The Acts of Apostles, Chapter 6, when the disciples of the early church presented seven  "reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom [..] to the apostles who prayed and laid hands on them."  These seven, the first Deacons, were ordained by the apostles and charged with tasks of practical charity in the community of believers.

ABOUT DEACON FORMATION

Each of our new Deacons completed a six year program of discernment, study, faith formation, and service that began with the "Formation for Ministry" program.  With the support and encouragement of their wives, families, and parish communities, these candidates now begin an ordained ministry in their local church communities.

ABOUT OUR DEACONS

Each Deacon's name is linked to his own informational page with background about the candidate and his family, church and community.  We encourage you to become acquainted with these men ordained by the Most Rev. Thomas J. Costello, Bishop, Vicar General for the Diocese on May 17, 2008 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
